Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. And the lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. (Joshua 6:1–5)
At Jericho, Elijah and Elisha are nearing the end of their prophetic journey together. Historically, Jericho is the place of the Israelites’ first battle in the Promised Land. The Israelites were able to take the city because they followed the instructions their leader, Joshua, received from God. Jericho is a place where you come to the realization that your spiritual covering carries the instructions of the Lord. When the instructions are followed, the walls that are hindering your prophetic progress will collapse. Also the walls of religion, racism, social injustice, and financial and economic struggles will fall as you obey God at Jericho. The walls surrounding your heart, which may have been broken because of the enemy’s lies concerning your destiny, will tumble as you obey the voice of the Lord. The prophetic war cry coming through you will break the wall of generational curses that may have plagued your family for years. The walls obey the prophetic sound, and only you can produce the sound that will shatter the strongholds (walls) in your life.
Jericho is a place of authentic praise. Even the devil can praise God and make it look real. In fact, he was the praise and worship leader before being cast out of heaven because he thought he should be the one worshipped rather than the worshipper. This act of treason cost him everything (Ezekiel 28:12–19; Isaiah 14:12; Luke 10:18; Revelation 12:3–9). As you approach your “seventh day,” take the city with authentic praise. When praises go up, the walls come down.
Jericho is located in the Jordan valley, and valleys are defined as areas of low land between hills or mountains. All of us will encounter a valley season in our prophetic walk. None of us are exempt from Jericho. Realize that in those seasons, Jordan is just up the hill. Exercise your faith, find the courage to reach within yourself, and climb. The Spirit of God will provide the extra lift needed to help you reach the top. Jericho demonstrates your prophetic walk in faith. You are well able to continue the journey, so march.
God bless,
Prophetess Jocelyn
